asbestos removal
Do you have asbestos that requires removal?
Asbestos removal comes under 3 different categories.
Non- licensed Removal- This are the low-risk materials, such as roof sheets, vinyl floor tiles and bitumen roof felt.
These materials do not require a licence from the HSE for the removal. Asbestos Somerset Ltd specialise in the removal of non- licensed asbestos containing materials.
Notifiable Non- licensed Removal- These are still non- licensed asbestos removal, but due to the complexity of the works, duration involved or where the materials are more hazardous, then the works would need to be notified to the appropriate authority before the asbestos removal work begins. Asbestos Somerset Ltd specialise in the removal of notifiable non- licensed asbestos containing materials.
Licensed Removal- These are the high-risk materials such as Pipe Insulation, Asbestos Insulating Board (AIB), Sprayed coatings. These materials are licensed due to the high risk of fibre release during the removal process.
Asbestos Somerset Ltd is not licensed by the HSE and we cannot remove these material types.
Asbestos Somerset Ltd is able to carry out non- licensed & Notifiable Non- licensed asbestos removal. Asbestos Somerset Ltd is fully insured and our staff fully trained on the removal of these types of asbestos materials.
Asbestos Somerset Ltd hold a Waste Carriers Licence supplied from the Environment Agency, which enable us to transport asbestos generated from the removal works to a licensed disposal site
Asbestos Collections / Disposal
Do you have some asbestos that needs collecting and Disposing of?
We offer an asbestos disposal and collection service and can accommodate small domestic jobs through to the largest projects.
Just because asbestos is removed from a building, it doesn’t stop being dangerous!
Asbestos has to be carefully wrapped in accordance with HSE guidelines and various legislative requirements. It then has to be removed from the site using specially licensed vehicles and drivers, where it is transferred to special asbestos skips prior to being sent to landfill where it is permanently encapsulated.

The collection service is particularly valuable during contracts where the asbestos waste needs to be removed from site regularly, because of site security issues or because of large scale activity which could potentially result in the waste material being disturbed.
Hazardous waste consignment notes are issued for all asbestos waste, as you would expect.

Asbestos Sampling / testing
Asbestos Sampling from Private Homes to Schools
Our Asbestos Surveyors are P402 qualified to undertake bulk sampling for asbestos. All our samples are sent to a UKAS accredited lab for testing and classification. Classification will not only tell you the which fibres are present (Chrysotile, Amosite or Crocidolite) but what type of Asbestos it is i.e., Asbestos Cement or Asbestos insulating board Etc. With this you can be assured that you will be safe when it comes to the removal of the Asbestos containing material (ACM’S) or reassured that it is safe in its location.
Our sample report will tell you whether the ACM’s is licensed or non-licensed, meaning first of all you are safe and that you meet current legislation. The Report also has a picture showing the exact location of the ACM’s and its size.
Refurbishment / Demolition Surveys
Why you need a Refurbishment survey?
Refurbishment asbestos surveys can be broken down to survey the entire building or parts of a building which are to be subjected to planed refurbishment works. The purpose of the Survey is to ensure that contractors working on refurbishment work are protected from asbestos containing materials on site.
Refurbishment surveys must locate and identify all asbestos containing materials before any refurbishment work begins. It involves an intrusive and destructive inspection with the potential of asbestos disturbance. The area to be surveyed must be vacated during the survey and certified ‘fit for reoccupation’ after the survey.

Refurbishment surveys are best matched to clients that are planning to embark on “substantial refurbishment” therefore will not usually be required for decorating and small, non-intrusive works.
In some cases, accessing all areas needs to be done in stages during removals. Our Surveyors will be available at commencement and during the works incase suspect materials are identified that could not be safely examined during the survey.
Our surveyors have experience in removals which enables them to assess foreseeable problems or elements that only experience could identify.
Asbestos Somerset Ltd will also take care of all Sample taking for you.

Management surveys
Why have a management survey?
The purpose of a management survey is to locate the presence and extent of any suspected asbestos containing materials in the building which could be damaged or disturbed during normal occupancy.
Management reports will help to assess and manage foreseeable maintenance and installation. The report will concentrate on the condition of the asbestos materials, and the chance in which they may produce air born fibres.
Any building built before 2000 may potentially contain Asbestos containing materials.
An Asbestos Management Survey will locate as far as reasonably practicable the extent and condition of Asbestos Containing Material’s within the buildings.
Risk assessment of the Asbestos Containing Materials is important to create an ongoing management plan of areas in which may be disturbed.
Asbestos will only become a problem when it’s been damaged or disturbed and the fibres become airborne.
Non-Domestic buildings must have an Asbestos register or report ACM’s that have been identified in the initial survey have to be managed and the register updated regular.
